Jesse Schmitz-Boyd

Dance Education & Artist

Jesse Schmitz-Boyd is a St. Paul–based dance artist, performer, choreographer, and educator with extensive experience teaching early childhood through pre-professional dancers. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance with a minor in Anthropology from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point, where he trained in ballet with Joan Karlen, modern with Micheal Estanich, and jazz and tap with Jeannie Hill.

His training began at the Reif Center in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and continued at Rosemount High School.

Jesse brings over a decade of professional performance experience to his teaching. He has spent twelve seasons as a performer and choreographic collaborator with Alternative Motion Project and is a longtime collaborator with Off-Leash Area, a multidisciplinary performance company. Jesse is the Artistic Director of Rogue & Rabble Dance, a project-based company focused on creating resonant dance theater for the modern world.

As an educator, Jesse has taught at Children’s Theatre Company, Ashley Ballet Arts Academy, Zenon Dance School, Allegro School of Dance, Young Dance, TU Dance, TLC Early Learning Center, Hamline Elementary, and Como Elementary, as well as schools and studios throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin. His primary division teaching emphasizes strong ballet foundations, musicality, imaginative exploration, and social-emotional development. He strives to create structured, nurturing classes that build coordination, confidence, and studio etiquette while maintaining a sense of joy and curiosity.
