Commemorating 25 Years | May 1-10, 2020

To celebrate Minnesota Dance Theatre’s lasting legacy of adventurous dance-making, MDT presents three signature works from its repertoire: The Rite of Spring and Tiananmen , choreographed by MDT Founder Loyce Houlton, and Alchemical Wedding , choreographed by MDT Artistic Director Lise Houlton.

The intimate in-studio program commemorates two significant milestones: 25 years after MDT founder Loyce Houlton’s passing, we celebrate her myriad and profound gifts to the dance world, and we also recognize 25 years of Lise Houlton's leadership of MDT. Join us as we toast to MDT’s past, present, and future.

The program of riveting contemporary ballet is presented in MDT’s Studio 6A, renamed “The Playhouse” in honor of founder Loyce Houlton’s original name for MDT, the Contemporary Dance Playhouse.

The program includes Loyce Houlton’s iconic The Rite of Spring (1984) set to the famous Stravinsky score, Tiananmen (1989), a tribute to the demonstrating students calling for democracy, and Alchemical Wedding (1993), Lise Houlton’s poetic and deeply personal homage to the hauntingly beautiful music of Sir Michael Tippett.
