Celebrating Loyce

Celebrating Loyce

Saturday, March 14 at 1:30pm | MDT Studio 6A

UPDATE 3/12/20: Celebrating Loyce, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14 has been postponed to a later date, to be determined. To support the health and well-being of our students, company artists, patrons, and larger community, we are making the decision to postpone upcoming MDT events that would have the potential for large numbers of people to gather in confined spaces. Our intention is that these steps, taken sooner rather than later, will help mitigate the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). As of now, all MDT classes will continue as scheduled with the precautions outlined here.

Join us as we celebrate the life and work of MDT Founder Loyce Houlton (1925 - 1995), one of the first American women to gain national recognition as a choreographer and leader in the field of dance.

Through film, stories, and live dance performances by the MDT company and school, we’ll take a look back at Loyce’s tremendous gifts and fearless tenacity, beginning with the founding of Minnesota Dance Theatre in 1962 and continuing through her tenure as Artistic Director, creating nearly 100 dances for MDT and other companies, including signature works Carmina Burana and Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy.

Guests are invited to join us at 1:30pm to browse historic materials that will be on display in MDT Studio 6A. The formal program begins at 2pm and lasts until approximately 2:30. Guests are invited to linger for conversation, sharing Loyce stories and enjoying refreshments.
