Open Adult & Teen Classes FAQ

I’ve never taken ballet before, which class should I take?
Ballet Fundamental (when available) or Beginning Ballet I

I haven’t danced in several years, which class should I take?
We suggest starting with Beginning Ballet I class to get your muscle memory back and then move up through Beginning II as you feel comfortable. Some students take a combination of these classes.

When do classes begin?
Our adult classes are ongoing throughout the year. There are no session start dates - you can start whenever you like.

How do I register?
Our adult classes are “open,” meaning you can start whenever you like and take as many or as few classes as you like on a pay as you come basis. You are only required to sign a Release and Indemnification Form available on the Registration section of the School menu.

What is the cost?
Cost is $14.00/class, $8.00/barre, or you can purchase a class punch card at a discounted rate; 5 classes $60.00, 10 classes $110.00. MDT/DI will accept credit cards only for class cards. Single classes can be paid in cash.

What is the dress code?
There is no dress code. As long as the instructor can see the form of your body to make corrections, we recommend - tights & leotard, t-shirt & leggings or shorts, etc.

Do I need ballet slippers?
You will want ballet slippers eventually. Grand Jete' in St. Paul is an excellent source for dance shoes. 975 Grand Avenue, St. Paul 55105, 651-227-0331. If you are unable to acquire shoes before your first class, you can start in 100% cotton socks.

Will I be the only adult in the Beginning Class?
The students in all our classes range in age from 13 - 70. Attendance varies from night to night, so it is always a different mix.

Is there a difference between Beginning Ballet I/Fundamentals and Beginning Ballet II?
Yes. Beginning Ballet I/Fundamentals is the first step in our adult program. Beginning Ballet II is a beginning/intermediate level class.

Which classes offer pointe work?
Pointe is taught in the Intermediate with Pointe class on Sunday afternoon.

Do you offer any Modern or Jazz classes?
Not on a regular basis. We occasionally offer special workshops taught by guest artists. These offerings are posted on the home page and on our school bulletin boards.

How do I find out if classes are cancelled?
Occasionally, classes are cancelled due to severe weather or holidays. Whenever possible, these cancellations will be posted on the home page and on our main phone line.
